A Note About SideReel Social

Hey SideReelers!

Hurrah! SideReel is getting more social! New enhanced social features are in the works, but in the meantime, the SideReel Team wants to give you a heads-up about what to expect.

For those of you who use Facebook Connect to log into your SideReel account, you’ve likely noticed that Facebook is asking for you to update your permissions in order to log into your account.

We at SideReel want you to know that nothing has changed on our end, and you still have 100% control of what SideReel posts on your behalf. Facebook has updated the way they do permissions, which requires you to accept them once again in order to log in, but your SideReel activity will still only be posted if you actively choose to publish it. This includes sharing your tracked shows and watched episodes on your news feed, timeline, or your friends’ timelines.

Before any of SideReel’s new social features go live, you’ll be presented with plenty of new privacy controls. Be assured that you will always have complete control of what you share on SideReel and on Facebook, and you’ll be able to customize the way you share your TV addiction with your friends.

We welcome your feedback, so please drop us a line in the comments or at info@sidereel.com for any further questions or concerns!

Sidereel is really starting to be completly shitty.
I’m logged in but it keeps loggin me out. I can’t do anything now ‘caus it wants me to sign in, BUT I SIGNED IN.

I guess i’m not the only one dealing with this shit. So it would be nice to fix it.

Thanks for clarifying, the new permission thing makes it seem like Sidereel is going to post whatever it feels like posting. I would not have logged in with facebook if that were the case.

    @Nick
I’m always loging in with facebook and I’m not sure if it has asked me for permission again(don’t really remember that thing) but I have no timeline and the facebook login still works perfectly.

I had the same problem as Koalack with the logging in thing.

And as Nick asked, is there a way to do this Facebook update without the timeline? I hate that layout and really don’t want to use it. I really hate this because I can’t track my shows anymore…

i just give access, then remove its permission right away in my facebook permissions. Technically sidereel says that certain permissions are not a requirment, but if you remove the optional ones, it will not let you log in with a facebook account.

But you still access data “AT ANY TIME”. I am not happy with this – I do not wish to allow this.

How can I still use this service, without invasion of privacy? My relationship status is none of your business.

I don’t mind adding an app to facebook, but I don’t want the mandatory timeline upgrade.

So to sum up the comments Timeline sucks and sidereel sucks for making us get it or make a non facebook account and re-tick all the lil boxes from memory…

Yep me too. Just the timeline facebook is trying to force on us. I would really like to be able to move my tracked shows to an unlinked account, this is just annoying.
