June just breezed by, didn’t it? We didn’t quite break the crazy records set back in May, but online TV viewing on SideReel was again pretty solid. We also had a nice milestone – passing 13K Facebook fans (and we’ve since passed 14,000; we’re thinking that we’ll definitely be past 15K by the time we post July’s trends). So, time to take a look at SideReel’s TV viewing trends for the month.
Most Popular TV Shows on SideReel in June 2010
1. True Blood
3. How I Met Your Mother
4. The Big Bang Theory
5. Gossip Girl
6. Pretty Little Liars
7. Sex and the City
9. The Hills
10. Grey’s Anatomy
11. The Office
12. One Tree Hill
14. The Secret Life of The American Teenager
16. Modern Family
19. So You Think You Can Dance
20. Breaking Bad
As predicted, True Blood, which premiered on the 13th of June, leaped to the top of the charts in popularity. Anticipating that SideReelers would be seeking all things True Blood (if you recall, HBO’s original True Blood minisodes also made a splash on SideReel back in May), we launched TruebieTV last month in conjunction with the True Blood premiere – an original weekly webseries with True Blood recaps, gossip and news, featuring our very own @sidereelAlex. The series has been growing in popularity, with the most recent video getting over 30K views.
Many of the Top 20 series on SideReel remained the same as in May – though 90210, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Desperate Housewives, Chuck, Bones and 30 Rock fell out of the Top 20. They were replaced by new summer smash hit Pretty Little Liars (premiered June 8th and had over 600K pageviews for the month), Sex and the City, Entourage (returned June 27th), The Secret Life of The American Teenager (returned June 7th), Dexter, So You Think You Can Dance (S7 premiered May 27th) and Breaking Bad.
We expected Pretty Little Liars to be somewhat popular – as it comes from Alloy Entertainment, creators of another little show that tends to be popular on SideReel, Gossip Girl (thus, it appeals to the same demographic). However, that is so quickly shot to the #6 slot – ahead of fellow ABC Family series The Secret Life of The American Teenager (#14) – was still a little unexpected. PLL has also been a ratings success for ABC Family – gaining viewers on a weekly basis – and regularly topping the Female Teen Demographic.
Similarly to True Blood, we wanted to give all of the PLL fans more original content to enjoy on a weekly basis. Thus, last week we also launched a weekly Pretty Little Liars webseries – Pretty Little Liars TV. Actually, if you couldn’t already tell, SideReel original webseries have been a growing trend in June, with not just TruebieTV and Pretty Little Liars TV (not to mention the long running This Week in TV), but also EntourageTV, with even more new webseries and segments on the way in July.
Speaking of July, we expect True Blood to continue to reign supreme, and expect both Entourage and Pretty Little Liars to rise even higher in the ranks. We also have the returns of popular Syfy channel series Warehouse 13 and Eureka at the beginning of the month, Mad Men‘s return to AMC at the end, as well as multiple new series debuts – including Haven, Covert Affairs and The Glades. Perhaps something new and unexpected will take the charts in July!
